Don’t think they’re just another acapella group on the contest circuit. These young men have a background—bringing their own stories, lyrics, and prophetic upbringing with them—and they definitely have a goal. When Brother Benjamin pulled them all together in mid-2020, he was enacting a shared vision for musical connection, for irresistible harmony, for disruptive reconciliation. Most of the members have known each other all their lives and have made music together in various ensembles and choirs over the years, so this effort just seemed like the natural resolution for their unique voices and talents.
They aren’t just gifted vocalists; Seven brings songwriters, arrangers, preachers, storytellers, producers—and even a commercial pilot—into one dynamic collaboration, and starting with their first original in November 2020 (“White Horse Cavalry”), they have been working hard to develop the group into a reliable platform for real, substantial, enjoyable music. For the first couple of years Seven focused on live experiences, with well-received covers of “Old Church Choir”, “I’m Going Away”, and “Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus”, as well as exciting new material like “Connected”, “Me Beast”, “Overview of Evening Light”, and of course “Dominate.” In April 2024 they released their first recorded single, “It Is My Soul,” and at a live event the same month they indicated that more studio projects are on the way.
When their mentor, Apostle Hargrave, suggested they use the name Seven, there were actually eight members. “Seven” summarizes their message, not their lineup. It’s a number of completeness, of perfection, of Biblical finality. It references a mighty angel, a great spiritual earthquake, a glorious vengeance, a triumphant unity, a day of rest. In a way, seven is a synonym for everything good in every place and time. Seven is the number of divine influence, and wherever the divine is, there is music. Whether delivering a hard-hitting original or covering a well-known classic, whether acapella or accompanied by instruments, whether singing or speaking, whether with seven members or featuring other artists or working on solo projects, SEVEN uses their voice to echo God’s seventh-degree resolution to every people, nation, tongue, and king.
